Martin Schindler Makes History: Triumph at the Austrian Darts Open 2025
Published on

What a weekend for Martin Schindler! The 28-year-old German not only secured the title at the Austrian Darts Open 2025 but also made a real statement on the international darts scene. In the buzzing Steiermarkhalle in Premstätten, "The Wall" crowned himself champion after a nerve-wracking tournament run — and in doing so, wrote multiple chapters of German darts history.

A Path of Comebacks and Nerve
It became clear early in the tournament: Schindler was in form. After confident victories in the first two rounds, the round of 16 brought the first real test. Against Dutchman Kevin Doets, Schindler was trailing 2–5 — but turned the game around by winning four legs in a row to clinch a 6–5 victory. A testament to his mental maturity and unshakable composure on stage.
The quarterfinal was a true spectacle against Chris Dobey. With a brilliant average of nearly 108 points, Schindler left no doubt that he was in the form of his life. Even Dobey’s strong performance wasn’t enough to stop "The Wall".
Pure Drama in the Semifinal
The duel with Josh Rock in the semifinal could hardly have been more dramatic. In a match that swayed back and forth, Schindler had the better end in the decider — also because Rock missed seven match darts. With a 7–6 win, the German advanced to his fourth European Tour final, once again showing he can hit peak performance under pressure.
A Final with Statement Character
In the final, Englishman Ross Smith awaited — a player known for his explosive scoring power. But Schindler remained unimpressed. With a focused, almost composed performance, he secured an 8–4 win and celebrated his third European Tour title. His reward was not just the trophy, but also the traditional green winner’s jacket — and standing ovations from the crowd in Graz.
A Milestone for German Darts
With this title, Martin Schindler climbs to 18th in the PDC world rankings — no German player has ever been ranked higher. He even surpasses Gabriel Clemens, who was ranked 19th in 2023. The victory in Graz sends a strong message: Schindler has now firmly established himself among the world’s elite.
